Pseudospeciation: the human tendency to subhumanize others. It truly amazes me how natural this tendency is. I imagine a handful of people have reached such a spiritual level to truly remove themselves from it.
I believe most behaviors can be traced back to the notion that we are trying to separate ourselves from others. By pseudospeciating others, we subhumanize them so we, suddenly, are better human beings.
But the fact is that we all have reasons for doing what we do. Our birth (given, not merited) character is a variable in an equation with time and circumstance to which our action at this precise moment is the solution. Yet, through pseudospeciation, we can delude ourselves to this truth. We can believe that we are better than others. We can make out other’s intentions to be whatever is most convenient.
